Who we are

What we collect

When you buy a guide, we collect:

• Name and email address, so we can send you the guide
• Payment information, processed by Stripe — we never see your card number
• Basic technical data (IP address, browser, pages visited), collected by our hosting provider Vercel in server logs for security and troubleshooting
• Advertising and conversion data from Google Ads, if you allow tracking and arrive from an ad or complete a purchase after clicking one
• First-party website analytics: page visited, referrer, campaign tags, and an anonymous browser ID so we can see what traffic is working

If you contact us by email, we keep the message so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation.

If you tick the optional marketing box when requesting a free sample, we also store that consent so we can send buying tips and guide updates. If you tick that box, we may also store your country and the guide pages viewed in your browser so emails can be relevant to the car and market you are researching. The free sample does not require marketing consent.

Why we collect it

To process your purchase and deliver the guide (this is the legal basis: performance of a contract). To keep the site secure and operational (legitimate interest). To measure whether paid ads lead to purchases, so we do not waste money on irrelevant traffic (legitimate interest). To understand which pages and traffic sources bring customers (legitimate interest). To send optional personalized marketing emails where you have consented. We do not sell your data.

Who else sees it

Only the services that run the shop: Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Vercel (hosting), Upstash (order and analytics storage), and Google Ads (advertising measurement). Each has their own privacy terms and processes data on our behalf.

How long we keep it

Order records for seven years, as required by Norwegian bookkeeping law. Email conversations for three years or until you ask us to delete them. Marketing opt-in records until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Server logs for 30 days.

Your rights

Under GDPR you can ask us at any time for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (where doing so doesn't conflict with our legal record-keeping duties). Email support@beforeyoubuyauto.com to make a request — we reply within 30 days.

If you think we've got it wrong

You can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) at datatilsynet.no.
